The History of Holika Dahan is that Holika the sister of king Hiranyakashipu tried to help his brother to kill Bhakt Prahalad and for this she tricked to Prahalad to sit at pyre with her. Holika wears a cloak to protect her from fire but Prahalada not. As the fire roared the cloak flew from Holika and encased Prahalada which survived him and Holika get burned. This bonfire is a reminder of the symbolic victory of good over evil and of Prahalada over Hiranayakashipu. The day after Holika bonfire is celebrated as Holi.
